Biote Q & A

What is BioTE?

Though your body produces hormones on its own, your endocrine glands may produce too much or too little of a certain hormone. Because your hormones impact almost every aspect of your physiology, an imbalance can significantly affect your body’s function. With hormone therapy, like BioTE™, you can safely balance your hormones and improve your quality of life.

BioTE is a company that utilizes bioidentical hormone pellets to supplement your body’s endocrine system with hormones that it lacks. Typically, these hormones are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.

Bioidentical hormone pellets are the size of a grain of rice and resemble the hormones your body naturally produces; therefore, providing an efficient alternative to synthetic hormones. After insertion, the pellets dissolve in your body and are absorbed into your bloodstream over time.

Benefits of BioTE include:

  • Increased energy
  • Balanced mood
  • Weight loss
  • Improved sleeping habits
  • Restored libido

Unlike other forms of hormone therapy, your urologist customizes each dose of BioTE based on your symptoms and lab work. You should notice results within four weeks of receiving your BioTE procedure.

Am I a candidate for BioTE?

If you notice irregularities in your sleep schedule, bowel movements, or overall body functions, you may struggle from hormone imbalance.

Symptoms of hormone imbalance include:

  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss or gain
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Mood changes
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Hot flashes

At Cypress Urology, your urologist discusses your symptoms with you to identify the cause of your discomfort. Depending on your symptoms, they may suggest a diagnostic test, such as a blood test, ultrasound, or pelvic test to determine if you have a hormone imbalance.

What should I expect for the procedure?

When you come into Cypress Urology, your urologist prepares you for the procedure and administers anesthesia where you’ll receive the BioTE injection. Once the anesthesia takes effect, your doctor makes a small incision in your skin and places the bioidentical hormone pellets just under your skin’s surface.

After this, your urologist wraps the treated area with a bandage, allowing time for the incision to heal. You may experience some bruising and soreness after the treatment.

Be sure to avoid strenuous exercise, bathing the treated area, or swimming until you return to Cypress Urology and the team removes the bandage.

Over the course of six months, the pellets will dissolve into your bloodstream over time. To experience the full benefits from BioTE, your urologist should insert new pellets two to four times a year.

If you experience hormone imbalance and think you could benefit from BioTE, call Cypress Urology today or schedule a consultation online to learn more.
